The Newton Community School District (NCSD) is proud to offer families top-notch and best educational choices in Iowa. 

We serve approximately 3,000 students (PreK - 12th Grades) enrolled in small class sizes at our seven schools:
Aurora Heights (K - 4)
Emerson Hough (K - 4)
Thomas Jefferson (PreK - 4)
Woodrow Wilson (K - 4)
Berg Middle School (5 - 8)
Newton Senior High School (9 - 12)
WEST Academy (10 - 12)

Registration Instructions for New or Returning Students

Families new to the Newton Community School District, or returning after ending their enrollment, or after being enrolled in another district, will need to contact the Central Registrar during business hours (Mon-Fri) (7:30 AM - 4:30 PM) to begin the registration process.

This process includes filling out the online registration form and providing the following documentation:

  1. Birth Certificate for each student being enrolled
  2. Proof of residency (utility bill, mortgage, lease or rental agreement)
  3. Immunization records for each student being enrolled
  4. Physical Form (see link to form below)
  5. Photo ID for parent/guardian registering student(s)

Documentation can be sent electronically or dropped off at the EJH Beard Administration Center (1302 First Avenue West - Newton, Iowa).



Re-Enrollment Instructions for Currently Enrolled Students

  • Registration fees are not due until the end of July
  • Contact your building's main office for assistance

Your child's health is important to his/her ability to progress satisfactorily in school and is our main concern.  Please call us if we can be of assistance.

IMMUNIZATION RECORDS

State law requires a certificate of immunization at the time of school enrollment.  The immunization card with dates must be at the school before your child will be allowed to attend classes.  The school nurse can validate the cards to assure records of immunizations are complete.  DUE: August 7, 2023

Kindergarten - dTap, Polio, MMR, and Varicella booster are needed before student starts school

7th Grade - Tdap and Meningococcal are needed before student starts school

12 Grade - 2nd Meningococcal is needed before student starts school


PHYSICAL FORMS

Your child will need to see their doctor for a Kindergarten physical as required by the Newton Community School District.  Click on the link below to download a form for your physician to fill out.  DUE:  August 7, 2023

INITIAL HEALTH INFORMATION FORM

This form helps us get to know your child better and their health history from you.  This form is to be filled out by the parent regarding their child's growth and health.  This is to be filled out in addition to having the doctor complete the Kindergarten physical form.  DUE:  August 7, 2023


DENTAL SCREENINGS

All Kindergarten and 9th Grade students are required to have a dental screening.  Click on the link below to download a form for your local dentist or orthodontist to fill out and sign after your appointment.  DUE:  October 13, 2023

VISION SCREENINGS

Vision screenings are a state requirement for Kindergarten and 9th Grade entry.  Please call and schedule an appointment with your eye doctor and be sure to mention it is for the kindergarten or 9th grade examination.  DUE:  October 13, 2023

  • All families need to apply every school year, but only one application per household is needed even if your children attend more than one school in the Newton CSD.
  • Be sure to read and sign the Waiver Information on the back of the application to be considered for a full or partial waiver of school fees.
