Dear Newton Community School District Families,

As we move forward into the spring season, our Newton schools are busy with activities and important events. I want to take a moment to outline some of the key happenings and provide you with the necessary information to stay engaged and informed.

Spring Break

First and foremost, Spring Break is just around the corner! There will be no school for students and staff March 8 – 17. It’s a time for our students, staff, and families to relax, recharge, and enjoy some well-deserved downtime. We hope you make the most of this break and return refreshed for the exciting months ahead.

ISASP Testing

Upon our return, students in grades 3-11 will be taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) tests. These assessments are crucial in helping us understand how our students are progressing and how we can better support their learning journey. We encourage our students to approach these tests with confidence and determination.

Graduation Celebrations

A highlight of our spring calendar is the graduation ceremonies for our WEST Academy seniors on Thursday, May 16 and our Newton High School seniors on Sunday, May 19. Graduation is a significant milestone that marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and growth. We look forward to celebrating this momentous occasion with our students and their families.

Bullying Policy Reminder

As we continue to foster a safe, respectful, and nurturing learning environment, we remind our community of our bullying policy. Ensuring a bully-free environment is paramount to us. The Newton Community School District is committed to providing all students, employees and volunteers with a safe and civil school environment in which all members of the school community are treated with dignity and respect. Bullying and/or harassment behavior can seriously disrupt the ability of school employees to maintain a safe and civil environment, and the ability of students to learn and succeed.

Policy 104: Anti-Bullying/Anti-Harassment and Regulation 104-R(1): Anti-Bullying/Anti-Harassment, Investigation Procedures can be found on the district website under District School Board Policies.  We have made the form to file a complaint more accessible. There is an electronic option on our website under the 'Parents & Students' drop down menu or you may print & fill out manually.

Please contact the superintendent’s office if you have any questions.

Staying Updated

Lastly, we encourage all families to stay up-to-date with the latest activities and announcements. Our school district’s activities and announcements page is regularly updated with schedules and information for each of our schools. Keeping informed is key to making the most of the opportunities and resources available.

As we step into this busy and productive season, let’s continue to support each other and work together to make it a successful time for all. We value your involvement and partnership in making our school district a thriving community for every student.

Wishing you a wonderful Spring Break and let’s enjoy the remainder of our 2023-2024 school year!

Warm regards,

Tom Messinger

Superintendent, Newton Community School District
