Iowa Assessments

8:15 am - 11:00 am

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thomas Jefferson 3rd and 4th graders will be taking the Iowa Assessments beginning Monday, April 16 through Friday, April 20.    Testing will take place in the morning.  One or two tests will be given each day and then normal classroom schedules will be run for the remainder of the day.

Students taking the tests will need to be well rested and fed.  Students that are not fatigued and hungry generally score better.

If possible, please try to avoid scheduling appointments during this time, as it is difficult to make-up the missed tests.  Students generally score better if they test on the actual testing days.

Why do we test?

The tests will tell students, parents, and teachers several things:

a)    How much students have learned about the concepts covered in the tests

b)    What areas students are doing better in than others;  showing areas of strengths and weaknesses

c)    It will tell students if they are improving from year to year

d)    It is a chance to compare students’ scores with other students in 5th grade across the nation

Please take the time to talk to your child and encourage him/her to do their very best!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher or myself.  Thank you for your cooperation and support during these days of testing!
